From Beyond The Periphery

Carl F. Bucherer debuts a new movement

And not just any movement but a new version of its original self-made peripheral rotor movement, which they then placed it in the most classic of timepieces. This only means its business as usual for the Lucerne-based watchmaker, that is, if business as usual means unveiling a very promising family of new calibres to further strengthen its existing collections.

The new CFB A2050 calibre is the first of a new family of calibres in the CFB A2000 series that have been designed and produced entirely within the watchmaker’s workshops. Most importantly, it features a patented peripheral rotor that, as its name implies, sits not in front of the movement but at its periphery. This means the self-winding CFB A2050 mechanical movement, as seen from the caseback, has zero obstructions and looks, for all intents and purposes, like a manually wound movement.

The automatic movement draws its energy from a double-sided self-winding mechanism with peripheral rotor, a design principle that Carl F. Bucherer was the first to bring into series production with its CFB A1000 movement. This principle has been adapted for the new CFB A2050 Manufacture caliber, which, with its linear design, is both technically and visually characteristic of the brand. The Geneva Stripes adorning the movement’s bridges and balance-cocks are a tribute to Swiss watchmaking tradition. An impressive rotation momentum guarantees that the central hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o’clock, and the date at 3 o’clock will be driven with autonomy for 55 hours. By the way, the movement is tested and adjusted to chronometer levels of accuracy with an average rate of -4/+6; fairly standard for a watch of this calibre.

And then there’s…the case. The new CFB A2050 is housed in a classically designed, multifaceted round case. The visual cues of which are further accented by clear edges, soft curves, and contrasting polished and matte surfaces. The dial is also a Manero classic and one that only bolsters its very refined case. It is elaborately finished with raised wedge hour-markers, and, as is usual for the Manero series, the time is indicated by faceted lance hands.

The new 40 mm Manero Peripheral is being launched in six versions all in rose gold or stainless steel, each with exquisite dials in either deep matte black or elegant porcelain white. Indeed, fine straps crafted from alligator leather perfectly complement each variant. While the stainless steel models are also available with steel bracelets and refined double folding clasps. All these make the new member of the Manero family a reliable and enduring companion for elegant gentlemen.
