Nature At Its Finest

I think that I shall never see, A poem as lovely as a tree

Perhaps Joyce Kilmer’s poetic words were the inspiration for H. Moser & Cie.’s latest offering. Time is infinite yet passes quickly. The future is a promise, but one that we must take care of. H. Moser & Cie. has taken on the mantle of reminding mankind (and womankind) to protect our precious planet and all it has to offer us.

The Moser Nature Watch is modern yet organic, (literally) rooted in nature yet looking to the future. The Moser Nature Watch is not only a ‘green’ watch, it is the first ‘living’ watch. It symbolizes the future of the planet and the commitment needed to sustain it. H. Moser & Cie. commits itself to eco-friendly and sustainable development within the horological world.

Not Your Typical Swiss Watch
Swiss watches are known to be accurate, elegant, and many are 100% Swiss made. The Moser Nature Watch meets those criteria, although it has a little something extra. It is not only 100% Swiss made, it is Swiss grown. Literally. The watch features plants native to Switzerland, grown in the Manufacture gardens of Schaffhausen.

The watch symbolizes climate change and some may consider it a call to arms (wrists?) for nature. It reminds us how bountiful nature is, how it takes it course, and how we need to protect it. As the Manufacture says in their video, “But time, like nature, was more precious than we thought.”

The Moser Nature Watch (Ref. no. 8327-1200) has a steel frame adorned with the gems of the horticultural world – succulents, moss, mini Echeveria, cress, spiderwort, and onion sets. The dial is natural mineral stone and lichen (a composite organism that arises from algae) from the Swiss Alps (remember the ‘Swiss grown’ part?), and the strap is made from grass and has a steel buckle engraved with the Moser logo. The best part of the watch description is this: “strap lawn must be maintained regularly using a mini clipper.”

The watch is powered by the hand-wound HMC 327 Manufacture caliber and measures 32mm by 4.5mm. The watch displays hours and minutes, and — this is a fantastic ecological achievement – it purifies oxygen, recycles carbon dioxide, and helps reduce your carbon footprint. This watch is perfect for the eco-warriors in us.

More than just a conversation-starter, this watch illustrates the H. Moser & Cie. commitments: to fulfill the conditions of the Responsible Jewellery Council in 2019; to use Fair Trade materials as often as possible; and to guarantee a zero carbon footprint. They are also committed to educating people about these commitments and getting them on board.

The Moser Nature Watch is one of a kind, and is on show at SIHH in Geneva from January 14 – 17 this year. Make time to see it, and remind yourself about your part in taking care of our precious Earth.
